Con’t

与会者:Shuddhabrata Sengupta, Monica Narula, Howard Chan, Siu King Chung, Tushar Joag, Nishant Shah, Nancy Adajania, Kaushik Bhaumik, Sonal Jain, Mriganka Madhukaillya, Vishal Rawlley, Stephen Wright, Prayas Abhinav, Renée Ridgway。

Open Call: Shadow Search
October 1- November 15

Cash Prize: €1000

Shadow Search

Pertaining to the research we are conducting at n.e.w.s. in our forthcoming book, it is very important to be able to find art and artists that reflect the spirit of the query rather than just its literal content. We want to explore the use of natural-language search algorithms that are able to find people and activities that embody the self-understanding of the kind of art we are seeking without specifically using the word art or a related vocabulary. In particular this search engine would allow prospectors in the world of information and databases to discover ‘shadow art activities’ that are partially hidden, off-the-radar, stealthy. Please see human readable version text, entry form and guidelines to participate. The winner wil be announced online on November 23, 2009.

Experimental Economy Camp Cont'd
November 22

Continuing our research on our forthcoming book 'Arbitrating Attention: reinvesting attention surplus in plausible artworlds' that rethinks the social and economic conditions of art and explores alternative models of remuneration, on November 22, 2009  n.e.w.s. will interact with the dynamic entrepreneurial, academic and scientific community CIS in Bangalore at 'Experimental Economy Camp cont'd' and announce the winner of 'Shadow Search'. Imagining “new social and economic contexts for art” this open seminar, brainstorming session and prize-awarding event  brings together interested students, professionals and algorithm developers in working to solve the Shadow Search conundrum. Participants in the Open Call will be asked to make presentations of their proposals l ocally and via Skype while members of jury will incite a discussion with the audience about the selected submissions. Please see CIS for time and more information. Jury members: Sunil Abraham, Nishant Shah, Ayisha Abraham, Stephen Wright, Prayas Abhinav, Renée Ridgway.

1Shanthi Road
November 20

'Networks are to stakeholders as participants are to communities?' One of the phrases and vocabularies spoken at the seminar 'Unspeakably More: Naming, Deframing: a lexicon for contemporary curatorship' (Art after Space) that n.e.w.s. co-organised in cooperation with Khoj and Periferry in Guwahati in Assam, India from October 1-4, 2009. On November 20 at 1Shanthi Road in Bangalore n.e.w.s. will present the research so far for her forthcoming book so far and highlights from this weekend where Invited curators, artists, critics, technici, interested parties and contributors from n.e.w.s. gathered together to examine the need for a renewed conceptual vocabulary. Please see the forum thread, 'Unspeakably More' where we will be archiving the livestream, audio excerpts and images the coming weeks.  Participants will lead week-long forums that elaborate on words or phrases for an ever-growing lexicon. Please feel free to join in! Participants: Shuddhabrata Sengupta, Monica Narula, Howard Chan, Siu King Chung, Tushar Joag, Nishant Shah, Nancy Adajania, Kaushik Bhaumik, Sonal Jain, Mriganka Madhukaillya, Vishal Rawlley, Stephen Wright, Prayas Abhinav, Renée Ridgway.
