Artist Statement:
I have made 3 'wolf-missiles' which are the same size as three of my family members. They are breaking into the Palazzo Strozzi, and play recordings of the words 'hurray, hurray' in the Mongolian language every 3 minutes. The recordings were made by the 3 members of my family which the missiles relate to.
When the army of the Mongolian Empire travelled to the West the soldiers used the word ‘Hurray!’ to raise their morale, and provide inspiration for their campaigns. Over time the phrase came to be adopted by the European armies.
‘Hurray!’ is also a holy word, used by the Mongolians when they pray.

Curator’s comments:
REN Qinga’s work in the Palazzo Strozzi has extended his piece ‘Long March Project’ in which he uses the body as an element. In ‘Long March Project,’ Ren tattooed the map of the Long March on his back, and continuously updated the tattoo with his advance. Ren also re-uses an element from one of his previous works called ‘Territory,’ in which the wolf is used as a representation of the spirit. In these new pieces, sound has also appeared in his work. He brings these two elements together in this piece.
